Sending Broadcast Email Messages Using Postie
How to send broadcast email messages without logging into the Horsemen’s Run website.
Prerequisites
In order to use this functionality you must be assigned the requisite role by an administrator.
Originating Message
Using your email client, create a message (originating message) addressed to the Postie address provided by the site administrator.
The subject of the originating message will become the broadcast message header. The content of the client message will become the content of broadcast message. Most formatting of the broadcast message will remain the same as the originating client message.
HTML Formatting
The Postie app supports most HTML formatting such as font size, bolding, and italicizing. It does not support font colors other than the default.
Subject and From Address Fields
The subject and from fields of the broadcast message are fixed and will be the same for every broadcast message sent in this manner. Administrators can change the subject and from fields if requested. Any changes will become the new defaults. There is currently no way to change the subject and from fields dynamically via the originating message.
Sample Originating Message
Resulting Broadcast Message
The website’s broadcast mail agent, MailPoet, is currently configured to send out a broadcast message at 10:00 a.m. each day. The transmit time can be changed by an administrator.
Each time an originating message is sent to the Postie inbox, the Postie app creates a hidden post that is not displayed on the website. The MailPoet agent checks to see if there are any new Postie posts created since 10:00 a.m. the previous day and includes the content of those messages in the broadcast message. The recipient of the broadcast message can view the hidden posts by clicking on the “Read more” link at the bottom of the message.
Creating a Newsletter
Each Postie post will create a header (originating message subject line) and content (originating email content). A broadcast newsletter can be created by sending a separate originating message for each topic to the Postie address prior to 10:00 a.m. Each originating message will create a header line followed by the content body.
Individual User Customization
Each Postie user can have their own email template with a unique subject and from address.
